Introduction

Harvested from the tuberous roots of Ophiopogon japonicus, also known as “Dwarf Lilyturf Root.” Slightly cold in nature, sweet with a subtle bitterness, it enters the heart, lung, and stomach meridians. Praised in Shennong’s Classicas “prolonging life with lasting use,” it excels at nourishing yin, promoting fluid production, moistening the lungs, and calming the heart. Often used for dry coughs, fatigue-induced coughs, thirst due to fluid deficiency, and restless insomnia. It can be brewed, decocted, or made into syrup—a mild and versatile yin-nourishing herb.
